WACO, Texas – The National Collegiate Equestrian Association has announced the Arion Sellier Riders of the Month for March, determined by the NCEA Awards Committee and released Wednesday.
After just a few rides in March, three different riders from two schools are being honored for their performances. Baylor's Lauren Jorgensen is this month's Fences and Flat awardee while South Carolina's Alexis Potts is tapped for Horsemanship and Olivia Cardi for Reining.
Arion Sellier Fences Rider of the Month: Lauren Jorgensen
Senior / Baylor / Albuquerque, N.M.
- Posted a 2-0 record
- Garnered one MOP accolade
- Had an average score of 84.5 with a 12.5-point win margin
- Won her point at 85.5 to an 83 to help a Fences sweep against UT Martin and getting the MOP
- Against Fresno State on the road she won her point 83.5 to 61 for a 22.5-point victory
Arion Sellier Flat Rider of the Month: Lauren Jorgensen
Senior / Baylor / Albuquerque, N.M.
- Went 2-0 for the month
- Earned one MOP honor
- Posted an 80.5 average score
- Had an 8-point average win margin
- Won her point by 13 points against UT Martin to help BU complete an 8-0 Jumping Seat sweep
- Earned the victory on the road with a close 84-81 decision for the MOP against Fresno State
Arion Sellier Horsemanship Rider of the Month: Alexis Potts
Junior / South Carolina / Fountain Hill, S.C.
- Posted a 2-0 record for March
- Garnered two MOP accolades
- Had an average score of 76.5 for the month
- Posted an average win margin of 4.75 points
- Now has a season MOP total of 6 to top the NCEA charts and be second in the USC record book
- Both her rides were the high Horsemanship points of the day in those meets
Arion Sellier Reining Rider of the Month: Olivia Cardi
Sophomore / South Carolina / Delaware, Ohio
- Went 2-0 for the month
- Earned one MOP honor
- Posted an average score of 71.25
- Had a 7.75-point average win margin
- Has eight wins on the season to lead the Reining squad at USC
- Against DSU she won her point by 9.5 points while against SDSU she won by 8

About the NCEA
A non-profit corporation, the NCEA is a governing body to advance the sport of equestrian. The NCEA is responsible for the development and administration of equestrian rules and guidelines. Equestrian is subject to all NCAA policies and procedures in the same manner as other sports. In 1998, Equestrian was identified and adopted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Committee on Women's Athletics (CWA) as an emerging sport for women at the Division I and II levels.
NCEA competitions are in a head-to-head format, and schools may choose to compete as a single or dual discipline team (Jumping Seat and Western). Each discipline has two events: in Jumping Seat, Fences and Flat, and in Western, Horsemanship and Reining. Teams can have five riders per event, with horses assigned by random draw at the start of the competition. Riders from opposing teams compete on the same horse, and whichever rider receives the higher score earns one point for her team. The level of difficulty is demonstrated by the accuracy of the pattern and how the competitor uses the horse to the best of her ability.
