OSU Equestrian Advances To NCEA National Championship Semifinal
OCALA, Fla. - No. 1 Oklahoma State equestrian defeated No. 8 Fresno State, 12-8, to earn a spot in the semifinals Friday at 1 p.m. CT at The World Equestrian Center. It marks the third-straight year the Cowgirls have advanced to the second round.
The first event of the day was Fences, where the Cowgirls took an early 4-1 lead. The lone Bulldog point came from Olivia Ferro as she defeated Hope King, 245-238. Emma Pacyna secured her fifth victory of the season, 211-209, after defeating Cecily Hayes.
First Team All-American, Sydnie Ziegler bested Ana Bertozzi, 239-223, and freshman Riley Hogan defeated Lizzie Stodden, 248-217. To conclude Fences, captain Abigail Brayman beat Grace Mathias, 211-209.
Horsemanship, which coincided with Fences, saw the Bulldogs even the score with a 4-1 win. Claire McDowall and Maddie Fussell dropped their points, 211.5-209 and 224.5-221, respectively.
Caroline Nielson countered with a 202.5-164 victory against Emily Maul. Natalie Vargo lost to Kameron Thom, 219.5-211, and Fresno State’s Brooklyn Moch bested JoJo Roberson, 218.5-203.
The meet was tied, 5-5, leading into the second half where Flat and Reining occurred simultaneously. Senior, Katie Pelzel, dominated against Sara Tuck, 221-197.5, to begin Flat. Ziegler dropped her ride, 208-170, but Brayman brought back the momentum with a 230.5-218.5 win.
Grace McReynolds continued her perfect season by picking up a point against Taylor Holstead, 237-210.5, and Big 12 Rider of the year King followed suit and bested Bertozzi, 235-234.5.
OSU finished the competition by dominating in Reining, winning the event 4-1. Quincee Clark started the event with a win over Julianne Kelley, 205-203.5. In her first appearance on the season, Stephanie Helsen dropped her point, 214.5-211.5.
Molly Mitchell picked up her tenth win of the season with a 204.5-203.5 win and Roberson secured the meet by besting Addison Welman, 208.5-201. To conclude the meet, senior Hannah Lovrien won her ride, 206.5-205.5.
TCU Advances to NCEA Semifinals
OCALA, Fla. – The No. 4 ranked TCU equestrian team rode their way to victory over reigning National Champions Georgia, 12-8, Thursday afternoon at World Equestrian Center. TCU advanced to the NCEA National Championship Semifinal for the first time in program history and will face Big 12 foe, No. 1 Oklahoma State tomorrow at 2 p.m.
TCU (12-6) started the day slow dropping both events in the first half. The Bulldogs claimed Fences, 3-2 with points coming from Ashleigh Scully on Vivaldi carding a 239 and Raegan Rast who took down her Georgia opponent 243-188 on Oakley.
On the Western side, the Horsemanship squad fell to the Bulldogs, 3-2 in a tight race. Mattie Dukes claimed the first point in the event for the Horned Frogs, 221-199 on Austin. Payton Boutelle edged her opponent 223.5-214.5 on Snip. Putting Georgia up 6-4 going into the half.
After the break, TCU and Georgia resumed action in Flat. Sydney Berube rode her way to a 238-223.5 win on Rosie over Georgia's Jordan Toering. Wynne Weatherly followed suit with a large margin of victory over her opponent 214.5-176 on Ducati. Jacey Albaugh and Laurel Smith came through in the three and four positions carding a 244 and 224.5 respectively.
Heading into the final event of the afternoon TCU led Georgia by one, 8-7. As it has many times this season, it all came down to the Reining squad to take down the 2021 National Champions. Shea Graham started off the event with a 213 ride on Ben. Maddy Buchanan narrowly edged her opponent 205.5-204 on Colonel. Jessica McAllister then clinched the win for the Horned Frogs with a dominant ride on Dually carding a 213. Mattie Dukes finished off the day for the Frogs in style taking her opponent down 212-210.5 on Little Bear.
No. 3 Texas A&M Cruises Past No. 6 Baylor, 13-6
OCALA, Fla. – Third-seeded Texas A&M advanced to Friday’s National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championship semifinals after defeating No. 6 Baylor, 13-6, Thursday at the World Equestrian Center.
The Aggies opened the day in dominating fashion winning Fences and Horsemanship, 4-1, in each event.
Junior Morgan Rosia earned the first point for A&M after defeating Dominika Silvestri, 236-208, on Rico. Sophomore Devon Thomas outscored Caroline Fuller, 245-120, on Charlie, while junior Kaitlyn Lovingfoss bested Madison Mitchell, 241-216, on Emil. Senior Haley Redifer wrapped up the scoring after beating Emma Fletcher, 242-219, with Perry. Despite not earning a point, Freshman Brooke Brombach registered a team high score of 247 on Jake.
Momentum carried to Horsemanship as senior Hayley Riddle captured the first point after edging Isabella Rosa, 219-217.5, on Bradley. Graduate student MacKenzie Chapman scored a point after beating Marley Mainwaring, 221-220, with Bogie. Junior Cori Cansdale and sophomore Ella Petak each captured points. Cansdale beat Nadalee Vasquez, 222-218, with Mikey, while Petak defeated Elsie Naruszewicz, 216.5-203, on Garth.
Texas A&M led Baylor, 8-2, at the break.
The Bears answered back defeating the Aggies, 3-2, in Flat. Seniors Caroline Dance and Nicole Leonard each scored points for Texas A&M. Dance outmatched Mitchell, 236-221, on Swag, while Leonard beat Madeline Vorhies, 244-227.5, with Corvich.
Leading into the final stanza, 10-5, Texas A&M closed the door shut on Baylor winning Reining, 3-1. Taylor Masson opened with a score of 214 on Snoop Dog, which ultimately clinched the team win as Andie Pratt matched her score resulting in no point awarded. Seniors Lisa Bricker and Marissa Harrell and junior Emmy-Lu Marsh each won as the Aggies claimed three of the four remaining points. Bricker defeated Madaline Callaway, 219-216, on Royce, while Harrell beat Shelby Clausen, 207-204.5, and Marsh bested Daisy Kaufman, 210-202, with Slash.
No. 7 SMU Defeats No. 2 Auburn, Advances To NCEA Semifinals
OCALA, Fla. - No. 7 SMU defeated No. 2 Auburn in Thursday's NCEA quarterfinal round of the National Championships. It was a battle of conference champions as the ECAC champs met the SEC champs at the World Equestrian Center.
The Mustangs (11-6) started the day's action against the Tigers (10-4) in Fences and Horsemanship. Sophomore Taylor Madden won SMU's first point with a score of 241.5 in Flat. Junior Emma Jolly followed, defeating her Auburn opponent 221.5-198 as the Mustangs dropped the event, 3-2.
Over in the Western ring, Auburn claimed the first three Horsemanship points before senior Megan Waldron and sophomore Nya Kearns won the final two with scores of 220.5 and 228, respectively. Kearns' tally was the highest score of the event.
The Tigers came out of the break with a 6-4 advantage before Flat action got started. Junior Miranda Seade won the event's first point thanks to a score of 233.5. After two Auburn riders claimed victories, senior Madigan Eppink won 238-230 for another Mustang point. Madden followed with a 247-227.5 victory that won her second point of the day as she logged the highest Flat score and helped SMU to a 3-2 event win.
SMU surged ahead with a 5-0 victory in Reining to close out the day and seal the win. Junior Dani Latimer claimed the first point of the day with a 220.5 that topped her opponent's 216.5. Sophomore Chalyce Head and freshman Maria Richards tallied the next two points with scores of 214 and 208.5, respectively. The Mustangs led the Tigers 10-8 while junior Taylor Zimmerman and Auburn's Boo Kammerrer waited for a score review. SMU went on to take both of the final points as Zimmerman tallied a 198 and graduate student Jill Pfisthner's 213 topped Kammerrer's 208.5.
